Abstract

This paper discusses the enduring practice of traditional medicine, facing challenges like stigmatization and habitat degradation due to historical, religious, and colonial influences. The conservation of medicinal plants and indigenous knowledge is crucial for cultural preservation and ecological balance. The interplay between modernization and traditional knowledge affects medicinal resources and cultural identity. Urbanization and religious change impact traditions, but indigenous values' resilience is evident. Christianity's impact challenges healing practices and environmental stewardship, but core values adapt. The safety and efficacy of traditional medicine involve scientific validation and WHO guidelines. Traditional knowledge transmission vs. formal education balances cultural preservation and external influences, with formal education causing shifts in heritage and environment. The lack of professional training in traditional medicine poses challenges, impacting authenticity and perpetuating exploitation. Establishing training institutions could enhance traditional medicine's authenticity and elevate its status. This dynamic landscape showcases the intricate interplay between tradition, modernity, culture, and environment within the context of traditional medicine.
