Abstract

In this thesis, design and simulation of wireless fire detection system with IoT reporting system was carried out. Loss of life and property caused by fire disaster calls for serious concern; to curb the adverse effect of uncontrolled fire a device is needed for early detection of fire. In this research work a circuit was designed which housed trio sensors (100? variable resistors and RTD temperature sensor), the sensors were connected to the input pin of PIC18F4620 Microcontroller, the PIC18F4620 Microcontroller analyze the signals from the three sensors every five seconds to ascertain if it has reached the assigned threshold (75?, 75? and ?45?^0C). SIM 800l GSM module was used to implement IoT, the SIM 800l GSM module was connected to the TX and RX port of the Microcontroller, AT command was used to configure the SIM Module. The power system was designed with two alternative power supplies, a relay was used to alternate the power supply, a 9v battery was used as a backup power supply, and an AVR was used to regulate the 5v voltage of the circuit. An LED bulb was used to alert the deaf in the building. MPLAB was used to write the codes in C++, Proteus 8 Professional software was used to simulate the circuit. The sensor circuit and power circuit were simulated, and it yielded a positive result, an oscilloscope was used to test communication between the microcontroller and the SIM module, and it yielded a positive result. With this research work, false alarm associated with fire detective device has been eradicated, the deaf in building can be notified of fire outbreak, this research work has also addressed power issue associated with fire detecting device. Furthermore, this system will also reduce adverse effect of uncontrolled fire (loss of life, property and Global warming). This research work is applicable to residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
