The study investigated the efficacy of fermented cassava liquid for bioremediation of soil contaminated with crude oil. Soil types examined included clay, sandy-loamy, and swampy soil. Physicochemical parameters of the fermented cassava liquid were evaluated over varying exposure periods and quantities. Microbes isolated from both crude oil and cassava fermented liquid were cultured and identified for use in the experiment, which spanned 28 days. Fermented cassava liquid was inoculated into crude oil-polluted soils alongside untreated control samples. Weekly intervals were maintained for monitoring. Analysis included physicochemical assessments and measurement of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) content. Results indicated a bacterial population of 6.82 x 10^4 cfu/ml in the fermented cassava liquid by standard plate count. Application of fermented cassava liquid led to substantial reductions in TPH concentrations: 46.5% in clay soil, 34.06% in sandy-loamy soil, and 20.4% in swampy soil compared to control samples. pH values of the soil samples increased proportionally with the addition of fermented cassava liquid. Thermal conductivity values decreased over the 28-day study period in the Department of Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering laboratory. The project affirmed the potential of microorganisms from fermented cassava liquid for remediating crude oil-contaminated soil environments. However, effective remediation required extended durations and optimal operating conditions. The findings underscored the feasibility of utilizing agricultural waste products like fermented cassava liquid in environmental remediation efforts, emphasizing the need for tailored strategies to enhance bioremediation efficiency in contaminated soil environments.
